7-Eleven Malaysia , CEO
Gary Brown, aged 57, is the Chief Executive Officer of 7-Eleven Malaysia. He is primarily responsible for supervising the total performance and strategic direction of 7-Eleven Malaysia, which is a publicly listed company on the Malaysian Stock Exchange. He has been in this role since 2014 and he is also a Non-Independent Executive Director of 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd. 7-Eleven Malaysia currently has 2,000 stores, employs in excess of 11,000 people and is the leading convenience store operator in Malaysia.
In 1980, Gary obtained a Certificate in Exporting from Perth Technical College, Western Australia. Subsequently, in 1981, he obtained a Diploma in Export from the Australian Institute of Export. He started his career with Metro Meat Ltd. (Australia) in the Shipping department in 1978. Subsequently, in 1980, he joined Dairy Farm group in Australia. During the years from 1980 to 1988, he was transferred to several corporations within the Dairy Farm group of companies in Australia, Brunei and Hong Kong, and held various positions including Wholesale Manager and Marketing Manager.
In 1988, he joined the Sara Lee group of companies ("Sara Lee Group"), as General Manager (Bakery, Asia). During the years from 1988 to 2011, he was transferred to several corporations within the Sara Lee Group in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the UK, where he held various senior designations including, Regional Vice President (Asia Pacific and Africa) and member of the Strategy Board.
In 2011, Gary joined Pos Ad Group Sdn. Bhd. as the Group Chief Executive Officer. Nearly two years later, he left there and joined Permanis Sdn. Bhd. as a Commercial Consultant.
In October 2013, he joined Berjaya Group Sdn. Bhd. as a Director. Later, in December 2013, he left to join 7-Eleven Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. as their Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
